Whitecloak Legion

A militant order of white-armored zealots hunting channelers in the name of a rigid Light.

The Whitecloaks, formally known as the Children of the Light, are a militant religious order dedicated to eradicating the Shadow and all who wield the One Power. Clad in distinctive white armor that gleams under the sun, they patrol the lands between nations, acting as self-appointed judges and executioners against those they deem Darkfriends or channelers. While they claim to serve the Light, their rigid dogma often leads them to persecute innocent men and women who simply possess the ability to channel, viewing all magic in living beings as inherently tainted by the Dark One.

Lore & Background

Despite their holy mission, the Whitecloaks are deeply flawed by their inability to distinguish between men who channel for good and those who serve the Shadow. This blind prejudice has led them to destroy entire villages and execute brave defenders of the Light. Their internal structure is hierarchical and authoritarian, with the High Inquisitor holding supreme authority over a region. While they possess formidable martial skills and are feared by common folk, their dogmatic nature often makes them enemies of those who truly fight against the Dark One, creating a complex web of conflict in the Shadow's war.

In Their Own Story

The midday sun beat down on the dusty plaza, reflecting harshly off the polished breastplates of the Whitecloaks. A hush fell over the crowd as the High Inquisitor stepped forward, his white tabard stark against the grey sky. He pointed a gauntleted finger at the trembling woman bound in chains, her eyes wide with terror. 'She wields the Power,' he declared, his voice booming without need for amplification. 'And thus, she is an agent of the Shadow.' The crowd gasped, but no one dared speak against the order. With a grim nod to his soldiers, the Inquisitor raised his sword, ready to purge what he saw as corruption, blind to the tears of innocence flowing in the dust.

Reader's Guide

The Children of the Light operate under a strict military and religious hierarchy led by High Inquisitors who govern specific regions. Their primary goal is the total eradication of channelers and Darkfriends, believing that any use of the One Power by living beings is an abomination. Internal conflicts often arise between regional commanders regarding the scope of their authority and the methods used to root out heresy. While some members are genuine believers seeking to save the world, others are power-hungry zealots who exploit the order's dogma for personal gain or political leverage. Their impact on the world is profound and often destructive. By hunting channelers indiscriminately, they drive many into hiding or toward the Shadow, inadvertently strengthening the Dark One's forces. Their presence creates a constant state of tension in the lands they patrol, forcing nations to choose between tolerating their harsh rule or risking open conflict with an army that knows no mercy.
