The Dark One

The malevolent entity imprisoned by the Creator whose return the Aes Sedai prepare for.

The Dark One is the malevolent entity whose prophesied return the Aes Sedai prepare for throughout the series. Imprisoned as the antithesis of the Creator, he gained servants among the channelers of the Age of Legends; when Lews Therin Telamon and his companions imprisoned the Forsaken with their master, the Dark One tainted saidin at the moment of victory, driving male channelers mad. His influence corrupts the Great Blight and has brought Shadowspawn such as Trollocs into the world.

Lore & Background

As the seals on his prison break the Dark One grows stronger: in Lord of Chaos he warms the climate, revives Aginor and Balthamel, and creates Shaidar Haran, his Myrddraal incarnation. Rand al'Thor confronts him in A Memory of Light and the two realise they must coexist because the Pattern needs them both; after Logain Ablar breaks the prison open, Rand uses a weave of saidin, saidar and the True Power to capture the Dark One and remake the prison without flaw.
