Limbo

Mobil Avenue: the subway station between the Matrix and the machine world.

Limbo in The Matrix Revolutions is the Mobil Avenue subway station - 'Mobil' is an anagram of 'Limbo' - a transition zone between the Matrix and the machine world. It is a separate world from the Matrix, which can only be entered or left by subway train, and Neo's powers do not extend there.

Lore & Background

Neo's consciousness is trapped there after he falls into a coma at the end of The Matrix Reloaded, having discovered his powers in the real world. He meets a family of programs there, including a girl named Sati. The station is controlled by the Trainman, an exiled program in the employ of the Merovingian, who smuggles programs from the machine world into the Matrix; when Neo tries to board a train, the Trainman refuses and overpowers him.

Reader's Guide

Morpheus, Trinity and Seraph free Neo by confronting the Merovingian at his club, Club Hel, and forcing him to release Neo's consciousness into the Matrix. Sati is brought into the Matrix through Mobil Avenue and delivered into the Oracle's care.
