Twin Programmers
Two shadows that slip through walls to protect the Merovingian's darkest secret.
The Twin Programmers are the Twins, henchmen of the Merovingian in The Matrix Reloaded, played by identical twins Neil and Adrian Rayment. Unlike standard subroutines that operate invisibly in the background, these two entities possess distinct humanoid forms and a unique ability to phase through solid objects, rendering them nearly untouchable by conventional weapons. They serve as elite enforcers for the Merovingian, acting as his personal bodyguards during critical operations within the digital realm.
Lore & Background
They can take on a translucent state in which they pass through physical objects such as floors or gunfire, float through the air and instantly reset any physical damage. They are believed to be older versions of Agents from the second iteration of the Matrix. They rarely speak, and then with a slow-paced English accent; when one speaks to the other, they usually say 'we' rather than 'I'.
Reader's Guide
The Twins are Exiles, rogue programs who have chosen to hide in the Matrix rather than face deletion, and they serve the Merovingian. When Morpheus and his crew free the Keymaker, the Merovingian sends the Twins to kill them and recapture him. In the freeway chase they fire on Morpheus and his companions until Morpheus makes their Cadillac Escalade overturn and explode; they are last seen turning intangible. In the conflict between Zion and the Machines, they serve as the ultimate test of a hacker's ability to adapt when physics itself becomes optional.
