The operator born in Zion who kept the Nebuchadnezzar running while guiding heroes through the code.

Tank (played by Marcus Chong) served as the original Operator of the Nebuchadnezzar, a critical role that allowed him to watch over both the jacked-in crewmembers and the ship itself against Sentinel detection. A natural-born citizen of Zion, Tank was born without the mechanical ports that machine-bred humans have, so he is unable to enter the Matrix. A skilled programmer, he provided nearly anything the crew needed within the simulation and guided them through dangerous events.

Tank's story is marked by a harrowing betrayal within the ranks of the Nebuchadnezzar. After Cypher decided to trade the crew for a return to the Matrix with no memory of reality, he initiated a massacre in the real world. Cypher blasts an unaware Tank from behind with a lightning rifle, gravely injuring him, and kills Dozer when Dozer charges at him. As Cypher is about to unplug Neo, Tank recovers enough from his injuries to stand up and kill Cypher with the lightning rifle, then rescues Neo and Trinity, giving them weapons and information for the film's climax. Tank dies after the events of The Matrix but before The Matrix Reloaded, and his duties as Operator pass to Link, who is married to Tank and Dozer's sister, Zee.
