Gameplay involves taking charge of a professional, semi-professional, amateur, or international football team as the manager. Players sign players to contracts, manage club finances, and deliver team talks. The simulation judges the player on various factors determined by the club's AI owners and board. New features include enhanced agent roles with distinct personalities, revamped in-game press conferences with more in-depth questions, and improved match analysis showing detailed information about different plays.

Metacritic reports a score of 85 out of 100, indicating generally favorable reviews from 23 critics. The German site 4players.de rated the game 87% as 'sehr gut'. In February 2011, Sega announced that the Windows and PlayStation Portable versions together sold 690,000 units, making it the company's third-highest-grossing game of the financial year, though Sega described the sales as slow.
