Gameplay
In Worms: Battle Islands, players take turns commanding worm teams, blasting opponents with a mix of weapons and tools until all enemy worms are either drained of health or knocked into the water to drown. The game offers two main modes: multiplayer and Missions. Multiplayer supports both hotseat and online play. In hotseat mode, players choose up to four teams, pick a landscape, and set rules like turn timers and weapon availability. Teams can be human or computer-controlled, with adjustable skill levels for AI. Online, players can join sessions, chat with others, and check rankings. Missions mode includes training maps, campaign missions, and puzzle levels. Collecting blueprints in campaign missions lets players build custom weapons in the weapon factory. A fresh addition is each player’s personal island, which displays abilities earned in the online Tactics mode. These abilities let players, for example, position worms or boost health by 15 points before a match starts. In Tactics mode, winners can take abilities from beaten foes and add them to their own island, encouraging players to defend and expand their island for a tactical edge. Customization options are plentiful: players can name individual worms, change their look, pick speech banks and victory dances, and tweak team-specific UI elements like health bars. A landscape editor also lets players draw and save custom battlefields for multiplayer.
