Lore & Background

Kronos was once the ruler of the world before being defeated by his children during an ancient war. The gods took a pledge after World War II not to father more children because their offspring were too strong and had caused immense slaughter in the past; this history of conflict among Titan offspring set the stage for future wars. Kronos remained dormant until he found a vessel in Luke Castellan, the son of Hermes. Manipulated by Kronos, Luke stole Zeus's Master Bolt to instigate a war between the Olympians, allowing the Titans to rise again. Ares was also manipulated by Kronos and helped cover up Luke's crime. The threat posed by these growing forces led Percy Jackson to realize he must either contribute to the world's destruction or work toward its preservation.

In Their Own Story

In the events leading to the final confrontation, Luke Castellan stole the Master Bolt to allow Kronos to rise again. During the journey to the Underworld in The Lightning Thief, Percy and his friends discovered that Luke was the true thief behind the theft of Zeus's lightning bolt. As the threat grew, Kronos possessed Luke's body, rising to obliterate Olympus. In The Battle of the Labyrinth, it is revealed that Lord Kronos has fully possessed the body of Luke Castellan and led an army against Camp Half-Blood. The demigods fought back but suffered many casualties including Daedalus, Castor, and Lee Fletcher before preparing for the oncoming war. Ultimately, Percy Jackson and his allies engaged in combat to stop the Titan King from destroying the world.
