Background

Sally Jackson's life is defined by her protective measures against supernatural threats. To shield Percy from detection by monsters, she married Gabe Ugliano, whose strong human stench hid Percy and his mother from them. During the events of The Lightning Thief, Sally is grabbed by the Minotaur while trying to get Percy to safety. In the film, Hades reveals that the Minotaur abducted her to the Underworld to trade for the bolt. In the film, Persephone gives the bolt to Percy, and as they only have three pearls, Grover remains behind while Percy, Annabeth, and Sally teleport to the Empire State Building. She is later freed by Hades after Percy returns the bolt to Zeus. In the book, Sally uses Medusa's severed head to turn Gabe to stone and sells his petrified body to a Soho art gallery as a normal statue.
