Lore & Background

Chiron is a son of Kronos, distinct from other centaurs who are often wild. He was granted immortality specifically to train heroes, a role he has fulfilled for ages. In the mortal world, he initially poses as Mr. Brunner at Percy's school, where he first appears in The Lightning Thief. His connection to his father is a source of conflict; in The Sea of Monsters, he is blamed and banished from camp because he is a son of Kronos when Thalia's tree becomes poisoned. He is eventually exonerated after Luke tricks the situation into clearing his name. In The Last Olympian, Chiron directly confronts and is defeated by his own father, Kronos, in battle before Kronos's eventual defeat. Following this, he allows Rachel to enter Camp Half-Blood to become the new Oracle of Delphi.

In Their Own Story

Chiron's journey involves significant battles and leadership moments across multiple series. In The Battle of Labyrinth, he organizes a quest into the maze and participates in the fight against a monster army invading from it; although badly wounded, he survives. During The Last Olympian, he leaves Percy to lead Camp Half-Blood's army while he gathers reinforcements from his cousins, the Party Ponies. In The Hidden Oracle, six months later, Chiron remains in charge of camp despite missing campers and downed communications, eventually participating in a battle against Nero's automaton. When Apollo and Meg return in The Tower of Nero, Chiron leads reinforcements disguised as a field trip for the youngest campers. In The Sun and the Star, he authorizes Nico and Will's quest to Tartarus while left alone at camp with Dionysus. In Wrath of the Triple Goddess, he surprises Percy by becoming his substitute history teacher at Alternative High School.

He teaches essential survival skills, history, and archery to prepare demigods for monster attacks. His role evolves from a guiding mentor to an active defender when Olympus is threatened, such as during the Battle of Manhattan where he leads reinforcements. In The Heroes of Olympus, he serves as one of Camp Half-Blood's satyr allies, reporting on Gaea's rising and participating in negotiations with Romans to transport the Athena Parthenos statue. He also participates in a funeral alongside Nico for campers killed in the final battle with Gaea. His dedication is evident when he volunteers for quests or leads field trips under false pretenses to ensure safety.
