Kisame Hoshigaki was a missing-nin from the Hidden Mist Village and a member of the Seven Swordsmen of the Mist. He later joined the Akatsuki, where he was partnered with Itachi Uchiha. His chakra reserves were comparable to a Tailed Beast, and he wielded Samehada, a sentient blade that could absorb chakra. During the Fourth Great Ninja War, Kisame was captured by Killer B and Gaara and placed under a genjutsu to extract Akatsuki secrets. Rather than betray his organization, Kisame took his own life, entrusting his final intelligence to Samehada.

The rain lashed against the cavern entrance on the island of Kiri, but inside, the air hung heavy and still. Samehada vibrated with a low, guttural thrum against Kisame's shoulder, its shark-like skin rippling as it sensed the intruders' chakra signatures long before they appeared. "They're here," Kisame grinned, his rows of sharp white teeth gleaming in the dim light. He didn't need to check a map; he could smell their fear on the damp wind. As Konoha shinobi burst into the chamber, water erupted from the stone floor and walls instantly, flooding the room to waist height before they could raise a hand. Kisame stepped forward, his eyes narrowing with predatory glee as he unleashed the full might of his Water Release, turning the cave into a drowning tomb for his prey.
