Nagato performs it after his battle with Naruto, reviving the people of Konoha killed in his attack, and dies from the strain. That use spoiled Madara Uchiha's plan, since he had intended the technique for his own resurrection.
Reader's Guide
During the Fourth Great Ninja War the repentant Obito decides to give his life to revive those who died in the war with it. Instead Black Zetsu takes over his body and performs the technique on Madara, who is fully resurrected and goes on to become the Ten-Tails' host.
