Background

Kishimoto originally wanted Konan to have an obscene look that showed more of her bust. Orphaned as a child by one of Amegakure's many wars and left to fend for herself, she became Jiraiya's pupil, and as Pain's partner she is known to the villagers of Amegakure as "God's angel".

Under Jiraiya she turned her natural gift for origami into the heart of her fighting style. She can split her body into countless sheets of paper, controlling and reshaping them at a distance to scout an area, form weapons or make the wings that match her title. Wet paper clings and loses its stiffness, which limits her, but she turns that weakness to her advantage by hiding explosive tags in her paper clones.

After Nagato's death she leaves the Akatsuki and declares her loyalty to Naruto. When Obito comes seeking the resting place of Nagato's Rinnegan eyes, she fights him in a suicide assault and is killed after being forced to reveal it, seeing the endless rain of Amegakure stop for the first time before she dies. Atsuko Tanaka voices her in Japanese and Dorothy Elias-Fahn in English.
