Momoshiki Otsutsuki

Background

Masashi Kishimoto created Momoshiki and based his design on Minamoto no Yoshitsune, the Heian-period warrior born Ushiwakamaru. He saw Naruto and Sasuke's fights against Momoshiki as the film's highlights and asked the staff to take special care with them. Voice actor Daisuke Namikawa describes him as an irredeemable villain with a god complex who regards humans as inferior; Xander Mobus voices him in English.

A pale, androgynous figure, Momoshiki is the reason Kaguya built the White Zetsu Army. He carries a pair of Byakugan and Rinnegan, the latter set in his palms, with which he absorbs and releases ninjutsu. Targeting the Tailed Beasts for their chakra, he and his partner Kinshiki attack Killer Bee and then come to Konohagakure for Kurama, destroying the Chunin Exams stadium and carrying Naruto off to their dimension. Confronted by Boruto, Sasuke and the four Kage before the extraction is finished, Momoshiki swallows a red pill made from Kinshiki's body, gaining another Rinnegan on his forehead, but dies to a Rasengan delivered by Naruto and Boruto together.

Boruto: Naruto Next Generations revises his fate: in his final moments he freezes time to speak privately with Boruto, brands him with the Karma mark and warns him of trials to come. Through the Karma he later possesses Boruto during the fight with the Kara member Boro, using chakra drawn from an unconscious Naruto to make a Rasengan and kill Boro, and stabs Sasuke's Rinnegan before Sasuke and Kawaki overpower him. In the following days Boruto is given a medicine that nullifies Momoshiki's power and lives normally. But when Boruto faces Code from Kara he tries to use Momoshiki's powers to increase his strength, which causes Momoshiki's resurrection and an attempt to kill Naruto, so Boruto asks Kawaki to kill him. Momoshiki is also a downloadable boss and later playable character in Naruto Shippuden: Ultimate Ninja Storm 4.
