Background
Before Zabuza took him in, Haku was an orphan. His father killed his mother after discovering that Haku carried a genetic ability, Hyōton, which lets him blend wind and water to make ice and was seen as a threat; Haku then killed his father. Wandering from place to place, he was found by Zabuza, who saw his talent and took him in as a tool. Haku became unquestioningly loyal and protective, finding purpose only in being useful to his master.
He meets Naruto, who mistakes him for a girl, while training, and the two bond over their shared experiences. On that same mission Haku gives his life to shield Zabuza from Kakashi's Lightning Blade, becoming the first casualty in the series; his death is not wasted, as a grieving Naruto uses it to redeem Zabuza. Episode 17 of the anime greatly expands his early life, including the moment he discovered his powers.
Kabuto Yakushi resurrects him in Part II to fight in the Fourth Shinobi World War until the Allied Shinobi Forces seal him. Mayumi Asano voices him in Japanese and Susan Dalian in English, with Mona Marshall voicing him as a child.
