The origins of the Elytra remain shrouded in mystery, yet their presence suggests a deep connection to the ancient and alien biology of the End. It is widely believed by scholars of the Overworld that these wings belonged to the Phantoms or perhaps even the long-vanished guardians of the End Cities themselves. Their leathery texture and flexible structure indicate they were once part of a living creature capable of navigating the treacherous, floating islands of this barren realm.

In Their Own Story

The wind howled through the obsidian spires as the adventurer peered over the edge of the End City. Below, the void stretched endlessly, a terrifying abyss waiting to swallow any who fell without preparation. With a deep breath, they equipped the strange, leathery wings found in the ship's cargo hold. Leaping into the drop, gravity seized them for a heartbeat before the Elytra snapped open with a soft rustle. The fall became a glide; the terror transformed into exhilaration as they swept across the purple horizon, finally free to dance among the stars.

Reader's Guide

To utilize the Elytra, players must first locate an End City and defeat the Shulker guarding the ship where the wings are stored in an item frame. Once equipped in the chestplate slot, the player can jump off high structures or use a firework rocket to gain lift and speed. The wings have durability that depletes based on time spent gliding and the steepness of dives; falling straight down causes rapid wear. They can be repaired using Phantom Membranes at an anvil or by combining two damaged pairs, extending their lifespan significantly. Strategically, Elytra are essential for traversing large maps quickly, especially when paired with fireworks for propulsion. They allow access to otherwise unreachable areas in the End and Overworld. However, players must manage their durability carefully, as broken wings leave them vulnerable to fatal falls without immediate repair options.
