The PD-2 is a Ukrainian multi-purpose drone built for aerial reconnaissance and combat, capable of carrying bombs with warheads up to 3 kg. It can launch from a runway or use detachable modules for vertical take-off and landing.
After the Russo-Ukrainian War began in 2014, the Ukrainian military needed drones, mainly for reconnaissance. Volunteers bought civilian drones and used them as they were or adapted them for military tasks. A volunteer group formed to support the army in eastern Ukraine. When trying to import modern drones, the group faced resistance from some foreign companies unwilling to sell. As a workaround, the PD-1 drone was developed with Ukrspecsystems; “PD” stands for “People’s Drone.”
In 2020, Ukrspecsystems created the PD-2, a major upgrade of the PD-1 with a heavier payload, longer communication range, and other improvements. It can reach 3,000 meters and fly for up to 10 hours. Its modular design allows extra motors to be added, switching it from runway take-off to vertical take-off and landing.
The system includes two reconnaissance UAVs, a ground control station, and a mobile control post built into a four-wheel-drive minibus.

Starting from the Russo-Ukrainian War in 2014, the Armed Forces of Ukraine saw the need for unmanned aerial vehicles, primarily for reconnaissance. Volunteers purchased civilian drones, which they used as-is or modified for military use. A volunteer organisation was established to help the Ukrainian military in eastern Ukraine. In attempting to import modern UAVs, the organisation faced reluctance from some foreign companies to sell their devices.
