Nanyangosaurus is a genus of herbivorous ornithopod dinosaur belonging to the Hadrosauromorpha that lived in the Late Cretaceous of present-day Henan Province, China. Its remains were discovered in 1994 near the village of Houzhuang, in Neixiang county, and the type species, Nanyangosaurus zhugeii, was described in 2000. The genus is significant for its primitive features within the hadrosauroid lineage, providing insight into the evolution of later duck-billed dinosaurs.

The holotype specimen of Nanyangosaurus, IVPP V 11821, was excavated from the Xiaguan Formation, which is now dated to the Turonian-Campanian stages based on plant and invertebrate fossils. The partial skeleton lacks the skull but includes eight posterior dorsal vertebrae, a sacrum of six vertebrae, a tail of thirty-six vertebrae, a partial ischium, a forelimb, and a hindlimb. The describers initially considered it to be of Albian age due to its primitiveness, but the type horizon is now believed to be younger.

Nanyangosaurus was a rather small hadrosauroid, with an estimated length of 4 to 5 metres. Its forelimbs were relatively long, with a long hand, and the first digit of the hand was completely absent, including the first metacarpal—this was not an accident of preservation but the actual condition of the living animal. Consequently, the taxon would not have possessed the thumb spike typical of its relatives.

According to a cladistic analysis performed by the describers, Nanyangosaurus was a basal member of the Iguanodontia, more derived than Probactrosaurus and closely related to the Hadrosauroidea. This placement highlights its transitional position in hadrosauroid evolution.
