The Legion of the Warmaster.

The Luna Wolves were a Legion of Space Marines, one of the 18 Legiones Astartes led by a Primarch. Their Primarch was Horus Lupercal, who was appointed Warmaster, overall commander of Imperial military forces, by the Emperor. The Luna Wolves were the Legion of Horus Lupercal, and the series opener, Horus Rising, describes his rise to power. The novel focuses on a Space Marine Captain, Garviel Loken, leader of the Luna Wolves' 10th Company.

The Luna Wolves were the Legion of Horus Lupercal, the most versatile and favoured 'son' of the Emperor. In the 203rd year of the Great Crusade, the Emperor appointed Horus as Warmaster, leaving him in charge of the rest of the Crusade while the Emperor returned to Terra for a secret project. The Luna Wolves were at the forefront of the Great Crusade, which over two Terran centuries reached star systems more than 50,000 light years away from the Sol System. The series opener, Horus Rising, describes the seeds of heresy being sown within this Legion.
