Background
It is the sequel to Halloween (2018) and begins on the same night the previous film ended, with James Jude Courtney again as Michael Myers and the residents of Haddonfield now aware of him. Jamie Lee Curtis, Judy Greer, Andi Matichak, Will Patton and Anthony Michael Hall star. A flashback shows the same night 40 years earlier, when the rookie officer Frank Hawkins stopped Dr. Samuel Loomis from executing Michael.
Jason Blum produced through Blumhouse Productions, and John Carpenter scored it with his son Cody Carpenter and Daniel Davies. Filming took place in Wilmington, North Carolina, in 2019, and after a year's delay due to the COVID-19 pandemic it premiered at the Venice International Film Festival.
Universal Pictures released it on October 15, 2021, and it streamed on Peacock at the same time. Reviews were mixed, but it grossed over $133 million. Halloween Ends followed in 2022.
