Background
Jamie Lee Curtis returns as Laurie Strode, with James Jude Courtney as Michael Myers and Nick Castle back for a cameo. Forty years after the first killings, Laurie lives in fear in a heavily fortified house and has a strained bond with her daughter Karen, while her granddaughter Allyson tries to stay close to her. When Michael escapes during a transfer from Smith's Grove, Laurie prepares for a final showdown on Halloween night.
After Dimension Films lost the rights, Blumhouse Productions took them on with John Carpenter's involvement. The film was shot in Charleston, South Carolina, premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival and was released by Universal Pictures on October 19, 2018.
Reviews were generally positive, and it grossed over $259 million on a $10 million budget, becoming the highest-grossing slasher film in unadjusted dollars. Halloween Kills (2021) and Halloween Ends (2022) followed.
