Background
Jamie Lee Curtis and Donald Pleasence return as Laurie Strode and Dr. Sam Loomis, with Dick Warlock as Michael Myers. The story picks up straight after the first film's ending: Loomis shoots Michael off a balcony, Laurie is taken to Haddonfield Memorial Hospital, and Michael follows her there while Loomis and Sheriff Leigh Brackett keep searching.
Carpenter co-wrote the script but declined to direct. Filming took place in spring 1981, mostly at Morningside Hospital in Los Angeles, on a budget of $2.5 million.
The film introduced the twist that Laurie is Michael's sister, which shaped later sequels until the 2018 film dropped it. Universal Pictures released it on October 30, 1981; it got mixed reviews and grossed $25 million domestically.
