Background
It is a sequel to Halloween (1978) and Halloween II (1981) that ignores the Thorn Trilogy of the three films before it. The cast also includes Janet Leigh, Michelle Williams, LL Cool J, Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Josh Hartnett in his film debut.
Twenty years after the hospital explosion, Laurie Strode has faked her death and lives in Summer Glen, California, as "Keri Tate", the headmistress of the private Hillcrest Academy, with her son John. Still haunted by nightmares, she fears her brother Michael Myers will find her, and on Halloween he does.
Released on August 5, 1998, the film got mixed reviews, with many calling it the best sequel so far but still below the original. It grossed $75 million worldwide on a $17 million budget, and Halloween: Resurrection followed in 2002.
