Dice Throne
A dice-and-card battle game blending strategy and luck.
Dice Throne is a hybrid dice-and-card game created by Nate Chatellier and Manny Trembley, combining strategy, probability, and tactical choices. Often compared to "Yahtzee meets Magic: The Gathering," it centers on fantasy battles where players aim to defeat all opponents using each hero’s distinct dice and cards.
In gameplay, each player picks a unique hero with five custom dice, a player board listing abilities triggered by specific dice combinations, and a personal deck of cards. Some cards are universal, while others are hero-specific. Players start with 50 health and win by reducing opponents to zero. On a turn, they draw a card and gain one combat point (CP) to play cards. They can roll their dice up to three times, locking or unlocking any dice between rolls, to activate abilities. These abilities typically deal damage or apply status effects like poison or protection. Cards can permanently upgrade abilities, alter dice rolls, affect combat, apply status effects, or generate extra cards or CP. The game supports 2 to 6 players in formats such as 1v1, 2v2, 3v3, or free-for-all.
As of early 2025, Dice Throne includes over 30 unique heroes, each with a complexity rating from 1 to 6. Higher-rated heroes require more time to master and demand good strategy. Season One (ReRolled) features Barbarian (1), Monk (4), Moon Elf (2), Ninja (2), Paladin (5), Pyromancer (3), Shadow Thief (5), and Treant (6). Season Two includes Artificer (6), Cursed Pirate (4), Gunslinger (2), Huntress (5), Samurai (3), Seraph (3), Tactician (5), and Vampire Lord (4). Outcasts adds Headless Horseman (4), Necromancer (6), Pale Lady (3), and Raveness (3). Vanguard offers Druid (4), Duelist (3), Forgemaster (4), and Sun Elf (3). Single hero releases include Alchemist (5) and Mystic Brawler (3). Marvel heroes are Black Panther (2), Black Widow (4), Captain Marvel (2), Doctor Strange (5), Loki (4), Miles Morales Spider-Man (2), Scarlet Witch (4), Thor (3), and Deadpool (3) as a single release. X-Men heroes are Cyclops (4), Gambit (6), Iceman (4), Jean Grey (6), Psylocke (3), Rogue (3), Storm (4), and Wolverine (2). Santa v. Krampus includes Santa (2) and Krampus (4). Every hero is fully standalone and cross-compatible, enabling diverse matchups.
