The genus Talostolida was established by Tom Iredale in 1931 in his work on Australian molluscs. Species within the genus include Talostolida latior, Talostolida pellucens, Talostolida subteres, Talostolida teres, and Talostolida violacincta. Several taxa originally placed in Talostolida have since been moved to other genera: Talostolida natalensis is considered a synonym of Talostolida pellucens pellucens, while Talostolida pseudoteres and Talostolida rashleighana are now placed in the genus Ovatipsa. The species are distributed across the Indo-Pacific region, with shells typically small and elongate.
