Metalbending

The earthbending sub-skill Toph invented.

Metalbending is a form of earthbending in Avatar: The Last Airbender that Toph Beifong created by bending the impurities in metal, first to escape a metal box in which she had been trapped.

Lore & Background

Toph taught herself the art at the end of Book Two and through Book Three. In The Legend of Korra she becomes the first chief of Republic City's Metalbending Police Force, later led by her daughter Lin, while her other daughter, Suyin, founds Zaofu, a commune of earth and metalbenders; the comic Toph Beifong's Metalbending Academy follows her teaching it.
