Airbending

The bending art of freedom.

Airbending is the bending art of the Air Nomads in Avatar: The Last Airbender and the one Aang uses most. It represents the element of freedom and is counted the most elusive of the four bending arts.

Lore & Background

Aang's airbending is a Southern Temple style based on Baguazhang, an internal Chinese martial art. Among the Air Nomads every person could bend: their bending was awakened through spiritual practice and a peaceful life rather than inherited, which is why they lived in temples, meditated daily and trained from childhood.
