Firebending

The bending art of power.

Firebending is the bending art of the Fire Nation in Avatar: The Last Airbender. It represents the element of power and is counted the most aggressive of the four bending arts; unlike the others, firebenders can generate their element instead of moving what is already there.

Lore & Background

It is based mostly on Northern Shaolin, with techniques from changquan, Southern Dragon kung fu and xingyiquan, and its discipline stresses self-restraint and breath control to direct and contain the fire. Zuko teaches it to Aang. Sozin's Comet gives firebenders tremendous power, while during a solar eclipse they are powerless.
