Lore & Background

Jacob Frye is a member of the British Brotherhood of Assassins, raised to follow the Creed alongside his twin sister Evie. In 1868, at the tail end of the Industrial Revolution, the twins leave Crawley for London and find a city controlled by the Templars, with both the Church and the Monarchy losing their power. Jacob and Evie aim to take back the city by infiltrating and uniting London's criminal underworld. Jacob is a hot-headed brawler who specialises in close-ranged combat, while Evie is strong in stealth. Together, they build up their own gang, the Rooks, to combat the Templar-controlled street gang called the Blighters. Jacob seeks to undermine Templar Grand Master Crawford Starrick's control over London society by assassinating his allies, including Dr. John Elliotson, who oversaw the Templars' operations. The twins make allies such as Charles Dickens, Charles Darwin, Alexander Graham Bell, Karl Marx, and Queen Victoria.

In Their Own Story

In 1868, Jacob Frye and his twin sister Evie arrive in London to find the city controlled by the Templars, led by Crawford Starrick. While Evie wishes to search for a Piece of Eden, Jacob convinces her to help liberate London's boroughs from Templar-run gangs. In the process, they build up their own gang, the Rooks, and make allies such as Clara O'Dea, Frederick Abberline, Alexander Graham Bell, Charles Darwin, Charles Dickens, Ned Wynert, and Edward Hodson Bayley. During this time, Jacob, seeking to undermine Starrick's control over London society, assassinates Starrick's allies, including Dr. John Elliotson, who oversaw the Templars' operations. The game also includes segments set in 1916, during World War I, which follow Jacob's granddaughter, Lydia Frye, who aids Winston Churchill in defending London against a new enemy espionage faction.

Reader's Guide

Jacob Frye is a hot-headed brawler who specialises in close-ranged combat, using era-accurate weapons such as brass knuckles, compact revolvers, cane-swords, and traditional Nepalese curved kukri knives. Players control Jacob throughout the main story, switching between him and Evie both during and outside of missions. Jacob's abilities can be upgraded through a skill tree system, with a maximum level of 10. The game's combat system focuses on chaining together fast-paced attacks and blocks. Jacob can use a rope launcher to rappel up structures or create zip-lines between buildings, and can pilot carriages or use them as settings for fights and parkour chases. The Frye twins start a street gang called the Rooks to combat the Blighters' influence, which can be leveled up with various upgrades pertaining to their weaponry, vehicles, and economic opportunities. Jacob's actions in liberating London's boroughs culminate in gang fights to definitively take over each district.
