Space

A first-season episode about an alien 'ghost' haunting NASA's space shuttle program.

'Space' is a first-season episode of The X-Files written by Chris Carter: an intended bottle episode about a manifested alien 'ghost' in the NASA space shuttle program.

Lore & Background

Cost overruns made it the most expensive episode of the first season. Critics derided it as 'decidedly unscary' and 'a little tasteless' in its treatment of the Challenger disaster.

Reader's Guide

The episode was later adapted in the comic series Season One, alongside episodes such as 'Pilot', 'Squeeze' and 'Ice'.
