Lore & Background
The revelation of Spender's parentage adds a tragic layer to the colonization plot. His mother is Cassandra Spender, the Cigarette Smoking Man's ex-wife and a multiple abductee. His father abandoned the family when Jeffrey was 12, and his mother was driven insane by what she claims were multiple alien abductions. However, his exposure to Mulder's unwavering belief in the truth awakens his own conscience. He reinstates Mulder and Scully to the X-Files but is shot by his father in 'One Son'; in 'William' he is revealed to have survived, disfigured by his father's experiments.
