The Syndicate

A shadowy cabal that traded human freedom for alien technology to survive an impending invasion.

The Syndicate is a nefarious group of covertly allied, influential government officials and businessmen who conceal an extraterrestrial plan to colonize the planet. It was formed at the end of World War II, after the Roswell incident of 1947, when German scientists were brought to the United States to work on an alien-human hybrid. Operating outside the bounds of democratic oversight, this group manipulated intelligence agencies and influenced political decisions for decades. It is the main force opposing Mulder and Scully until 1999, when the alien rebels incinerate its high-ranking members.

Lore & Background

Deep Throat claimed it began after Roswell, at an ultrasecret conference of power brokers from several nations who signed a treaty on what to do if an alien spacecraft crashed on Earth. However, as decades passed and the reality of an alien colonization effort became clear, their focus shifted entirely to survival at any cost. In 1973 it formally allied with the alien colonists, receiving an alien fetus to research a hybrid that would serve the aliens as a slave race, and its members handed over loved ones such as Cassandra Spender and Samantha Mulder in exchange. The group's power was absolute yet fragile, relying on the silence of its members and the manipulation of the media. In 1998 the Syndicate learned of a rebel faction among the aliens that was fighting against colonization. The rebels finally incinerated the entire group of high-ranking members, destroying the Syndicate.
