Lore & Background

Unusual Trolloc attacks, the dead walking and ripples in the fabric of the world signal that the Last Battle, Tarmon Gai'don, is near.

In the prologue Galad Damodred confronts Eamon Valda, Lord Captain Commander of the Whitecloaks, kills him and takes his heron-mark sword and his rank; Rodel Ituralde campaigns against the Seanchan in Tarabon and Arad Doman; and the High Lady Suroth learns that the Seanchan Empress is dead, implicitly killed by the Forsaken Semirhage. Mat Cauthon travels into Altara, where Talmanes arrives with much of the Band of the Red Hand and fights off a Seanchan force sent to kill Tuon, using fireworks as artillery. Tuon marries Mat, making him Prince of the Ravens, then returns to Ebou Dar to destroy Suroth and take command of the Seanchan. Moiraine Damodred is revealed to be held by the Aelfinn and Eelfinn, Perrin Aybara plans his attack on the Shaido with the Black Ajah sister Galina Casban, and Egwene al'Vere begins her captivity among the Aes Sedai loyal to Elaida.
