Towers of Midnight

Thirteenth book of The Wheel of Time, by Robert Jordan and Brandon Sanderson.

Towers of Midnight is the thirteenth book of The Wheel of Time, by Robert Jordan and Brandon Sanderson, and the sequel to The Gathering Storm. It is the second part of what Jordan had planned as his single final volume, A Memory of Light, which Tor Books, Jordan's wife and Sanderson agreed to split into three books written by Sanderson from Jordan's extensive notes. Sanderson proposed the title, replacing the working title A Memory of Light: Shifting Winds.

Lore & Background

The Perrin Aybara storyline centres on his trial before the Children of the Light and his duel in the dream world with Isam over a dreamspike, a ter'angreal that blocks Traveling.

Moving through Ghealdan, Perrin Aybara meets the Children of the Light, whose officers Jaret Byar and Dain Bornhald accuse him, correctly, of killing two of their men. When Galad Damodred finds his stepmother Morgase Trakand among the refugees, he and Perrin agree to a trial with Morgase as judge under Andoran law; she finds Perrin guilty of illegal killing under an obscure mercenary law, and Perrin agrees to accept Galad's sentence after Tarmon Gai'don. Berelain publicly denies rumours that she and Perrin were lovers during Faile's captivity. Moridin orders Graendal to kill Perrin and gives her a dreamspike, which Isam plants so that Perrin's Asha'man cannot open gateways, allowing an army of Trollocs to attack. Perrin enters the dream world to remove it and is attacked by Isam, who kills several wolves before Perrin takes the dreamspike and draws him away.
