Lore & Background
With many of the seals on his prison broken, the Dark One grows in power: he warms the world's climate, returns the Forsaken Aginor and Balthamel as Osan'gar and Aran'gar, and creates Shaidar Haran, his Myrddraal incarnation. The Black Tower is founded in this book.
After Rand al'Thor offers an amnesty to male channelers, Mazrim Taim swears allegiance to him and together they found the Black Tower, which trains men called Asha'man. Rand is courted by both the rebel Aes Sedai in Salidar, who send an envoy to Caemlyn, and the White Tower, whose envoy to Cairhien includes many Black Ajah. Alanna Mosvani bonds Rand as her Warder against his will, and Min Farshaw reunites with him. Rand sends Mat Cauthon to Salidar to fetch Elayne Trakand, and Perrin Aybara arrives in Caemlyn from the Two Rivers. Fearing the Salidar Aes Sedai will try to control him, Rand moves to Cairhien. The deposed Queen Morgase seeks help in Amadicia but is held captive by Pedron Niall of the Children of the Light. In Salidar, Elayne and Nynaeve make magical discoveries with the help of the secretly captive Forsaken Moghedien.
