During the Age of Legends, Dragonmount was not a desolate wasteland but a place of immense beauty and power. It was the site of the Tower of Ghen, a hub for research into the True Power, and home to Lews Therin Telamon before his fall. The mountain's unique position at the convergence of major ter'angreal ley lines made it the only place where the Dragon could be born with sufficient strength to face the Shadow. When Lews Therin and his followers attempted to seal the Dark One again, the resulting cataclysm shattered the world. The volcano erupted with such force that it tore apart the land, creating the jagged peaks of the Spine of the World and turning the fertile valleys into a chaotic mess of geography. This event, known as the Breaking, left Dragonmount as a hollowed-out crater filled with dark magic, a place where the very air screams with the echoes of the past.

In Their Own Story

The wind howled through the jagged obsidian spires of the crater rim, carrying ash that tasted of sulfur and old blood. Rand stood at the edge, his cloak whipping violently in an updraft that felt less like weather and more like a living breath. Below, the darkness pooled in the depths where the Bore had once been sealed, a void that seemed to pull at his very soul. He could hear them—the voices of the past, Lews Therin's screams mingling with the laughter of the Aes Sedai who had failed him. The ground beneath his boots hummed with a terrifying resonance, the Pattern stretching thin over this wound in reality.
