The Commonwealth uprising is the end of the story in both media. In the comic's final arc, set in the Commonwealth, Rick Grimes calms a riot and calls for peace, but is shot and killed by Sebastian Milton, the governor's son. In the television series' final season, the Commonwealth's class system and the corruption of Governor Pamela Milton lead to a class war.

On television, Sebastian Milton is fatally bitten by a walker during an attack on a crowd, and Pamela has her opponents rounded up and sent to forced labor camps. Maggie's group joins the Commonwealth's military, under General Mercer, in overthrowing her.
Reader's Guide
In the series finale, "Rest in Peace", a coalition of soldiers and freed prisoners fights Milton while a huge herd overruns the Commonwealth. After the city is saved, Daryl and Carol imprison Pamela in her own jail.
