Rue comes from District 11, the agricultural sector of Panem. Her upbringing in the orchards and fields gave her an intimate knowledge of plants and the ability to move silently through the forest. In the arena, she uses her small size to climb trees and spot dangers from above, making her a natural scout. She allies with Katniss after recognizing her as the "girl on fire" from the opening ceremonies. Together, they devise a plan to destroy the Career tributes' food supply by using tracker jacker nests. Rue's death occurs when she is caught in a trap set by Marvel; she is killed by a spear thrown by him.
