Background
Having united almost all the northern clans, Bethod sent the emissaries Fenris the Feared and White-Eye Hansul to Adua to offer peace in return for Angland. When the Union refused, his forces invaded Angland and captured the fortress of Dunbrec on the River Whiteflow. Lord Governor Fedor dan Meed's hastily gathered men suffered defeat after defeat, the worst at Black Well. The Union army under Lord Marshal Burr arrived in Angland, joined by rebel Northmen led by Rudd Threetrees, but Bethod caught Prince Ladisla's command on the river Cumnur. After the battles for Dunbrec, Uffrith and the High Places, Bethod took refuge in Carleon; Logen Ninefingers killed Fenris the Feared in a duel, entered Carleon and killed Bethod, and Logen was declared the new King of the Northmen.
