The Recruiter, also called the Salesman, is the unnamed man in a suit who recruits players for the games, played by Gong Yoo. He challenges vulnerable people to ddakji for 100,000 won a round and gives the winners cash and an invitation card with a phone number.

Background
Losers who cannot pay let him slap them instead; that is how he draws in Seong Gi-hun on the subway. Calling the number and giving a name and birthdate confirms a player's entry. A year after the first season Gi-hun sees him recruiting again. In the second season Gi-hun's hired men track him down; he kidnaps two of them and forces them into a game of rock paper scissors and Russian roulette. He reveals he once served in the games as a worker and then a soldier, and killed his own father, and he shoots himself on the final turn of a round of Russian roulette with Gi-hun. Gong Yoo's brief appearances drew wide praise.
