Glass Stepping Stones

The glass bridge: tempered or ordinary glass, one jump at a time.

Glass Stepping Stones, better known as the glass bridge, is the fifth game of the 2020 games in the first season. Sixteen players must cross two parallel bridges of glass panels, where at each step one panel is tempered glass and the other ordinary glass that breaks under a player's weight.

Background

Before the game players pick numbered vests, which turn out to set the order of crossing; the room is decorated like the inside of a circus tent, and the VIPs watch it live. Those in front die guessing the panels. Player 017, a former glass maker, can tell the panels apart until the Front Man switches off the lights; Cho Sang-woo then pushes him onto a panel to reveal the last safe step. Jang Deok-su refuses to move until Han Mi-nyeo pulls him off the bridge with her. Only Gi-hun, Sang-woo and Kang Sae-byeok reach the end, and the remaining panels shatter as they finish, badly wounding Sae-byeok.
