His initial charisma helps him form a temporary alliance with the protagonist and Sang-woo during the early rounds, leveraging his street smarts against the guards.

As the games progress, Deok-su's morality erodes completely. He attempts to lead a rebellion against the staff after the first game but fails, realizing he is powerless without money or weapons. In the Marbles round, his luck runs out. Paired with an elderly woman who refuses to play, he becomes desperate for marbles to survive. This desperation leads him to target Gi-hun and Sang-woo's stash during the night.

His arc concludes violently in the dormitory. Confronting Sang-woo over the marbles, Deok-su attempts to kill his former ally. The confrontation ends with Sang-woo defending himself, resulting in Deok-su's death.
