Shinigami

Death himself, headmaster of DWMA.

Shinigami, also called Death and named Lord Death in the English dub, is the headmaster of Death Weapon Meister Academy in Soul Eater and the father of Asura and Death the Kid.

Lore & Background

He embodies madness through order and wants to keep the world at peace. Eight centuries ago he sealed away Asura, binding his own soul around Death City to hold him underground, which also keeps him from leaving the city; he founded DWMA to stop new kishin and to create death scythes. He usually stays in the Death Room, reached through mirrors, and has taken on a cartoonish look so as not to frighten students. Spirit is his main death scythe. He dies when Kid connects his Lines of Sanzu during the fight against Asura.
