Below them, lower castes toil in the pressurized under-decks and chemical processing plants that keep the citadels aloft. This isolation breeds a distinct subculture defined by claustrophobic luxury above and perpetual anxiety below; one atmospheric failure could drop an entire city into the crushing dark.

Outside, sulfuric winds battered the reinforced glass of the observation deck. Inside, synthetic jasmine masked the metallic tang of recycled air. A Gold overseer watched storm clouds swirl in violent violets and bruised oranges beneath his feet. Far below the underbelly, the lift engines hummed—a low, rhythmic thrum vibrating through the floorplates. He raised a glass of vintage wine to the chaos outside, knowing that if the engines faltered, the city would plunge into the abyss. Here, they were gods; down there, in the acid rain, was only death.
