Mars
The planet whose Reds were told it could not yet be lived on.
Mars is the main setting of Pierce Brown's Red Rising. Its underground Red mining colonies harvest helium-3 to fuel the planet's eventual terraforming, but the surface has in truth been terraformed for centuries, and the Reds are lied to about it to keep them complacent. The planet is governed by an ArchGovernor, Nero au Augustus, and the Institute where the most elite Golds are trained lies in the Valles Marineris.
Lore & Background
Darrow's home colony is Lykos. In Golden Son the Society's forces capture Mars and Darrow's forces retake it from House Bellona with an Iron Rain; at the end of Morning Star the Rising holds Mars with Luna and Earth. In Dark Age the Red Hand of Harmony and Volsung Fa's Obsidians bring war to Mars, and in Light Bringer the Society and Republic fleets battle in orbit over it.
