Mercury is a battleground of Pierce Brown's sequel books. After Morning Star the Ash Lord's fleet retreats to Mercury and Venus; in Iron Gold, Darrow defies the Senate and liberates Mercury from the Society with an Iron Rain, and Scorpio au Votum is named as its former ArchGovernor. In Dark Age, Atalantia au Grimmus besieges the Republic's Free Legions on Mercury after destroying their fleet.
Lore & Background
To stop the assault, Darrow has Orion create hypercanes with old terraforming technology, which kill many of the invaders, but Orion goes rogue and Darrow executes her after tens of millions of civilians have died. Darrow's forces ride the storm across the Ladon Waste and repel the attack on the city of Heliopolis, until Lysander leads Heliopolis in rebellion and the Society forces defeat Darrow's. By Light Bringer the Republic has lost Mercury to the Society.
