Defender's Quest: Valley of the Forgotten blends tower defense with role-playing elements. Created by the American studio Level Up Labs, it began as a Flash game on sites like Kongregate and Newgrounds before arriving on Steam for Windows in October 2012. A free HD remaster, the DX Edition, later reached PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PlayStation Vita. Critics praised its gameplay. A sequel launched in January 2025.

Plot
Players control Azra, the Royal Librarian of the Ash Kingdom, as a plague creates undead monsters. After nearly dying, she discovers she can bring people to the spiritual world, a power needed to fight the unbeatable undead. With companions, she seeks the plague's source and a way to stop it.

The original game received an 85/100 from Destructoid, which praised its mechanics and soundtrack while criticizing the art. RPGamer rated it 4.5/5, calling the story entertaining and gameplay addictive but upgrades boring. The DX Edition scored 82/100 on Metacritic; RPGamer rated it 4/5, again praising combat and story while criticizing upgrades and controls.
