Gameplay

Football Manager 2010 retains the core gameplay of the series, where the player manages a professional football team, including semi-professional, amateur, and international sides. Responsibilities include signing players, handling club finances, and delivering team talks. The game simulates real-world management, with the player's performance evaluated by the club's AI owners and board. The 3D match engine, first introduced in Football Manager 2009, was expanded with additional animations, stadiums, and pitch degradation. The database editor was upgraded, notably allowing users to add new divisions to existing leagues or create entirely new leagues, such as a Super League. For instance, the English football league system could be made fully playable down to its lowest tier (level 20), a first for a football management game. Several patches were released: version 10.1 on 30 October 2009, 10.1.1 on 2 December 2009, 10.2 on 17 December 2009, and the final patch 10.3 on 1 March 2010, which included a mid-season transfer update.
