Background
Jinbe is imprisoned by the World Government after he refuses to support the execution of his friend Portgas D. Ace, the brother of Monkey D. Luffy. Luffy frees him, and Jinbe resigns his position as Warlord of the Sea and fights to stop Ace's execution.
Two years later he meets the Straw Hats on Fish-Man Island and apologizes to Nami for setting Arlong free. Together they save Fish-Man Island from a coup d'état by the New Fish-Man Pirates, Fish-Man supremacists inspired by Arlong. Luffy asks him to join his crew; Jinbe agrees but first has to settle his affairs with Big Mom. He later rebels against Big Mom, helps Luffy plan an unsuccessful assassination attempt against her and officially joins the Straw Hats. After the crew defeats the alliance between Big Mom and Kaido of the Four Emperors, Jinbe becomes one of Emperor Luffy's Senior Officers.
