Cassie Cage debuted in Mortal Kombat X (2015) as the daughter of the actor Johnny Cage and Special Forces officer Sonya Blade. With her parents' fighting skill, she becomes a Special Forces soldier and leads a new generation of Earthrealm's defenders. She is the main hero of Mortal Kombat X's story mode.

In the final chapter of Mortal Kombat X she fights Sindel, Kitana and D'Vorah and then defeats Corrupted Shinnok. She combines her father's martial arts with her mother's military training, fighting hand to hand up close and with pistols from range. She returns in Mortal Kombat 11 with a combat drone, BLB-118.

Shawn Kittelsen is credited with creating her in the 2015 comic Mortal Kombat X: Blood Ties. Artist Marco Nelor finalized her look of short blonde hair, aviator sunglasses and a tactical suit. Her mannerisms include blowing bubble gum and taking selfies, which her 'Bubble Head' and 'Selfie' Fatalities play on. Ashly Burch voiced her in MKX and Erica Lindbeck in MK11.
